The Special Sandwich

The Special Sandwich
Words by Ashley Jewnarain

Kara Nichas
Where in Durban can you get a sandwich for R5 these days? Let alone a spicy, saucy, cheesy fast food delight that should really be more popular by now in the city of the Johnny's roti.

Well, that's the primary aim of this article, to hype up one of my favorite munchies, The Kara Nichas Special Sandwich.

Five bucks gets you two slices of toasted white bread filled with freshly fried potato chips, cheese and a tangy sweet n' sour chili sauce. A simple combination of flavours that goes a long, scrumptious way down to your tummy.  One is never enough me.

Kara nichas is situated at 57 Prince Edward Street, and apart from the aforementioned sandwich,
They do really amazing curries, breyanis and a delightful variety of Indian snacks and sweetmeats.
Their prices are extremely reasonable and though they're usually quite busy no matter what time of day you stop by, their service is efficient and friendly.

Special Sandwiches are an extremely fast seller and are made all day, so you generally don't have to wait too long for those.
Now get down there and take a bite! You won't regret it.

There are several branches actually. One in Chatsworth and a few in PMB. Everytime I visit Durban, I must stop by and eat till I burst. Greatest sandwich EVER!

Now aren't these the same peeps who have been keeping Witsies well fed on 5 bucks for the last five years, and peeving off the competition with there R30 buck lunch menues. I think so. Go Kara! Last time I wandered through the Matrix, I remember stopping by for a fabulous veg curry for R5. Its a steal!
